Archie Sauer, 2015-2026

It is with profound sadness that his family announces the passing of their dear Archie, who went from the fast-paced world of greyhound racing to a beloved family member. Archie quietly passed away at home on April 17, 2026, likely due to advancing heart disease.

His journey from racer to family dog was a simple story, but an unforgettable one for his family. Archie’s love, loyalty and goofiness were boundless, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to be part of his life.

The black and white greyhound was born on June 25, 2015, alongside his siblings Highdollarwomen (sister), Pooch Pounder (brother), Quality Rocks (brother), and Readytodothis (sister). He was registered to Dream Hounds, Inc. in Proctor, Arkansas. His mother was KB’s Cadavi, and his father, Djays Octane.

He came from a line of notable racers. Archie had more than 6,000 half-siblings on his father’s side, a testament to the expansive legacy of his lineage. His grandparents included Flying Penske and One More Secret on his father’s side, along with Dodgem By Design and Hot Kisses on his mother’s side.

Known as Master Achiever in his racing days, Archie ran exclusively in Florida at the Orange Park Kennel Club and Daytona Beach Kennel Club. He ran his first race on March 26, 2017, and his last on July 24, 2018. In 75 races, he finished first 8 times, second 7 times, and third 15 times.

Although an exciting racer in his youth, it was in retirement that he truly shined.

Archie found his forever home in Wisconsin on October 13, 2018, thanks to the dedication of Greyhound Pets of America–Wisconsin. Adoption helpers Lucrecia and Tom Baigis played a pivotal role in his transition, as did his foster parents, Gary and Cheryl Suckow, who helped him adjust to life off the track—a transition many greyhounds need time and patience to navigate.

His racing days left him with visible scars on his front legs, including a prominent mark on his left arm, affectionately called his “star scar.” He struggled early on with sleep aggression and separation anxiety. Archie hated being alone and would cry and howl for hours unless he was in his crate. His deep attachment to his people was evident—he often followed them from room to room, including into the bathroom, just to keep an eye on them.

But with time, patience, and love he blossomed into a more confident, relaxed, and occasionally stubborn companion.

Archie was, at his core, a dog of passions.

He took great pride in long, impressive urinations and in pooping in as many new and exciting places as possible. He was also a serious, professional-level sleeper. He claimed numerous beds as his own and became a notorious bed hog, often grumpy if asked to share.

Archie's culinary preferences reflected his appreciation for life's little pleasures. His favorites included pork, various exotic fruits such as palm fruit, and Dentastix—his nightly bedtime snack.

He liked things his way. He would often insist that meals be served in bed, or that he alone would determine the route of his daily walks—quirks that only made his family love him more.

In retirement, Archie embraced the digital world, making many friends on Instagram as Archie the Greyhound (@greytarchie), where he shared photos of his simple adventures. His bio read: “My racing name is Master Achiever, but my friends call me Archie. You can call me Archie.”

Even as his jet-black coat softened into a distinguished grey, Archie still played like a puppy—chasing and play-biting his dog brother or thrashing joyfully with his toys. Though he played with vigor, he never harmed either.

Archie is survived by his family: his devoted Da, Craig Sauer; his Ma, Loan Chung; his stepbrother, Remy; and his grandparents, Rob and Lynda Sauer.

His family plans acts of kindness in his honor as a memorial to his life. Those wishing to do the same are encouraged to donate to the GPA-Wisconsin Blue Fund, which supports veterinary care for injured greyhounds. Donations can be made in Archie’s honor at gpa-wisconsin.org/bluefund.
